I was a new employee for a wire company. A bid came up for a forklift driver. I got the bid. Three weeks into my training I got bumped because of lack of work. Our union book states that if you get bumped the person that bumps you has 5 days to show that they can do the job. On the 6th day he was still training so I filed a grievance. Then because of lack of work, last week, 20 people got laid off including me. The guy who bumped me is still driving the forklift. I asked about my grievance and I was told it wouldn't do me anygood, that too many people could bump me. How do I find out if my grievance was ever filed? Now that I am layed off, is it too late? The union steward and the forklift driver are friends, could he be sticking up for his friend? What are my recourses?

[b:c410afc8f9] to find out if a grievance is filed, either the union stewart or your local union hall should have a paper trail and a copy of your grievance also, just ask for a copy and ask what step your grievance is in.
also depending on your local union by-laws, you can ask for a different representative and tell them why.
hope this will help you.[/b:c410afc8f9] |
